Don’t Confuse Jesus’ Life with His Ministry

There’s a confusion that has wrecked a lot of sincere Christians. They read about Jesus healing every sick person, walking on water, feeding thousands with five loaves, and they think this is what they’re supposed to do too. When it doesn’t happen, they feel like failures. Or worse, they pretend it’s happening when it isn’t.

Here’s what’s worth seeing. Jesus had a life and Jesus had a ministry. Two different things. His life was sinless obedience to the Father. His ministry included things only the Son of God could do, like dying for the sins of the world. He never asked you to follow Him in His ministry. He asked you to follow Him in His life.

Paul said it plainly. “Be followers of me as I am of Christ.” He wasn’t telling you to be an apostle, to write Scripture, to plant churches in three continents. He couldn’t even imitate Jesus’ ministry himself. There were times he was hungry, cold, sick. He left Trophimus sick in Miletus. He told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach. Paul could not heal everyone he loved. But he could follow Jesus in how Jesus lived. And so can you.

This sets you free. You don’t have to fake a healing ministry to follow Him. You don’t have to walk on water to be His disciple. You just have to live the way He lived. Saying no to your own will. Saying yes to the Father. In the small things and the big things. That’s a life within reach for every believer.
